The Leo-Cedarville Farmers Market will debut May 9, 2024 in downtown Leo. This weekly market will run from 4-7 p.m. Thursday evenings May through September, encouraging local businesses to reach new audiences and bring local goods, fun and community to the Leo community. It will be housed in the newly renovated downtown Leo retail district on Main St. and SR 1.
The market will focus on featuring fresh local produce, flowers and unique handcrafted items.
"We are excited to bring the community together to support our local vendors and downtown businesses,” Adrian Odle, head of the initiative, said. “Gateway Farms, a local non-profit with a mission to use agriculture as a vocational training avenue, is an example of the type of vendor we are excited to bring to our community. They will provide a wide variety of fresh, chemical-free produce grown just down the road from the market. We also have an amazing lineup of talented local artisans with a focus on hand-crafted items and delicious local food options for the whole family!"
The entire community is joining in on the fun, with businesses staying open into the evening hours and occasional planned “theme nights,” where vendors, local brick-and-mortar businesses and attendees are encouraged to join in the theming to make the night one to remember. The first market on May 9 will feature live music by local musician Joe Justice, a craft table for children to make a Mother’s Day gift, and Complimentary Mother's Day photo sessions courtesy of Bluebird Photography and Above the Best Rental.
The farmers market is presented by the Leo-Cedarville Foundation, a community development nonprofit that works to preserve, enhance and build the greater Leo community, in collaboration with the Town of Leo-Cedarville.
“We are thrilled to be part of this incredible opportunity for our community,” Leo-Cedarville Foundation president Lindsey Sharp said. “There’s an all-star group of dedicated and
passionate individuals working diligently to bring a top-tier farmers market to our area. Community members have been craving something like this for years, and we’re ever grateful to those behind this initiative working to bring this to Leo on a consistent basis.”
“We’re pleased to draw attention to our downtown Leo shops and local businesses who are also participating in the farmers market,” Town Manager Tena Woenker added. “We don’t want to inconvenience residents living in this area so look for signs to find designated parking near the plaza. The group of volunteers leading this activity have been dedicated to making this small market welcoming for everyone.”
Applications for vendors are now open and can be found at leocedarvillefoundation.com.
